HELP SAVE THIS MOTHER BEAR’S RAINFOREST HOME

The track below is made from the original footprint left by this white mother bear as she searched, with her two hungry black cubs for salmon on a B.C.’s coastal estuary. The original cast of this spirit bear’s front foot was taken from a paw print in the sand by bear biologist and tracking expert Wayne McCrory, just moments after he took this photo. Wayne has headed the Valhalla Wilderness Society’s work that saw the creation of a 212,000 ha Spirit Bear Conservancy complex on the B.C. coast in 2006. So far, in cooperation with other groups and First Nations, the society has been successful in preserving well over one million acres of old growth temperate rainforest for bears and incredible biodiversity.

The spirit bear is a subspecies of the North America black bear, and one of the most rare and beautiful bears in the world. Found nowhere else on earth, these white and black phase bears are at risk from loss of habitat through logging. Your purchase of a spirit bear track helps to protect the habitat of the spirit bear as five percent of each sale is donated to the Valhalla Wilderness Society to help further it’s conservation programs.
You receive a colour 3” x 6” gift card of the image below with the purchase of each spirit bear track.

Black Bear

The Black Bear is found throughout Canada and much of the United States. Its diet consists of a variety of vegetation, fish and small animals. Generally a solitary animal, the Black Bear is an excellent climber, has a well-developed sense of smell and good hearing. The Black Bear is not a true hibernator; it can be aroused from its den if the weather becomes warm or if startled. Not all Black Bears are black — some have rusty brown or grey coats.

Symbolism and Inspiration of the Bear
Since the beginning of time it is believed the healing and inspirational power of wild animals

can be a source of guidance in our daily lives. According to ancient beliefs, the bear is known in many cultures as a symbol of power, strength and an awakening of the unconscious. Bear's wisdom lies in knowing that change and transformation are brought about by visualizing new outcomes and fresh beginnings. The bear teaches us that with quiet introspection comes the art of turning goals into reality and that the answers to life's questions resides within us.

Grizzly Bear

The Grizzly Bear is the symbol of our wilderness and, despite it being one of our largest carnivores, it is often the first animal to go extinct from human influences, such as from the Canadian prairies.

Wild Animal Tracks supports conservation efforts such as the setting aside of sanctuaries such as the Khutzeymateen on the British Columbia raincoast.

The Mighty Grizzly
This cast of the front paw print of a large, adult male grizzly was made on a sand bar in the Khutzeymateen Valley by biologists with the Valhalla Wilderness Society, who, after years of work, were eventually successful in seeing the area preserved as Canada's first and foremost grizzly bear sanctuary.  The bear that left this print could be heard crashing around in the nearby undergrowth as the mold of the track dried.
